Submairne
Diegesis
is a style of fiction storytelling that presents an interior view of a world and is:
that world itself experienced by the characters in situations and events of the narrative
telling, recounting, as opposed to showing.
Diegetic sound
sound that appears as though it is coming from within the story of the film or TV program,
for example:
the sound of the type writer in the trailer of submarine.
Dialog
Sound effects (Foley sound)
these are added during production and post production to create meaning, sound effects and dialogue in particular are planned carefully during pre production
Non-Diegetic
sound that clearly isn't coming from the story
incidental music
an example of this is where in submarine Oliver Tate imagines a candle lit visual of his death, this is connoting that the pupils and many of his friends and family miss him by using dramatic music.
